Donor of the Month

Every now and then, someone comes along that is excited to help.  It may be help by offering time, or expertise, or it may be with some money or other physical gifts.  This post has been created to honor one young man who has helped the fundraising for Bear Hollow's black bear exhibit tremendously.  His name is Peyton, and he is five years old.  Peyton visits the Zoo regularly, and knows most of the creatures that live here.  When he saw our bear cubs and heard about their tragic story and how they ended up here, Peyton decided he wanted to help.

And help he did.

Peyton saved his allowance.  He held bake sales.  He raked the yard.  He flat out asked for money from relatives and sometimes even strangers.  And then he came to the Zoo and brought what he had saved up.

Peyton had raised almost $150!!  Words almost cannot express how grateful we are for someone with a heart like this to help us out with our fundraising.  If everyone was this generous, we could do some amazing things here at the Zoo.  Please think about the animals here at Bear Hollow the next time you are visiting.  Then, think about Peyton and how much he wants to help the animals.  And if you are so inclined, please drop some money into our donation pole- it is located near the front gate of the Zoo and has a picture of a bear cub in front it.

If you can't give fiscally, give physically.  We are always in need of volunteers, particularly adults that have a more open schedule.  We have myriad jobs to do here- not just animal care.  Getting to meet Peyton has inspired Clint, Lynsey and I.  We sincerely hope that reading this will inspire you to help the Zoo out as well.

That's Peyton, on the right, posing with me, Berkeley, after he dropped off some money to go toward the renovation of the black bear exhibit.

Peyton, from the very bottom of our hearts, thank you VERY much for your kindness and generosity.  You are helping to make a difference in the lives of our animals!
