Year of the Turtle Art Contest

Each spring, we have a Wildlife Art Contest here at the Zoo.  Because this year has been designated as the "Year of the Turtle", we decided to change our entry rules just a little to join in the celebration.  Normally, our guidelines are that the subject(s) in the art must be a Georgia native, non-domestic animal.  We altered that this time around to the subjects being only turtles and tortoises- any currently living species, exotic or not, was acceptable.
Media for the submissions included crayon, colored pencil, watercolor and scratchboard.  Prizes were awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers for each age grouping (K-2, 3-5, 6-8, but no high school entries were submitted this year!)
We  had some really great entries, and would like to share some of them here with you.  We did not include the artists' names but these are all works from local school children, and have been posted in no particular order.
Please enjoy- we sure did!

Thank you very much to the students who submitted art this year!  We look forward to the Art Contest each spring- the pieces are always so well done.
Next spring's Art Contest is already being drawn up (pardon the pun).  Should we stick with a theme?  It seemed to be very popular this year.  What do you think?  Let us know!

Also, finally, we will be putting together a Backyard Wildlife Photo Contest for the Zoo.  Details will be announced soon.  Keep an eye out here and on our Facebook page for updates.

We look forward to seeing you here at the Zoo soon.
